Barbara is a love letter to Rome’s bustling streets — a lively Roman restaurant inspired by the rustic tradition of Roman pizzerie. Located in San Francisco’s historic Italian district of North Beach, Barbara opened in September 2018 to serve as the neighborhood destination for casual dining. The restaurant specializes in Pinsa, an ancient style of Roman pizza made using a combination of soy, rice, and heirloom wheat flour. The dough is left to rise for 48-72 hours and baked at a lower temperature, resulting in a thick but light and airy crispy crust rich in natural fiber.
The energetic open kitchen showcases seasonal and local ingredients, bringing the taste of the eternal city to San Francisco. Barbara offers craft cocktails, Italian and Californian wines, indoor and outdoor seating, and a fun, warm, stylish atmosphere that pairs well with the restaurant's classic Italian comfort and friendly spirit.
