Welcome to Buurtcafe LOFT, The Land of Free Thought!

We never imagined that the former Christian Reformed Jerusalem Church, built in the heart of the Vruchtenbuurt in 1936, would one day become the place where our dream of creating a small community would come true. Our vision was to establish a space filled with grand ideas, feel-good food, art, and activities to help us grow together. In today's society, consumed by our phones and constant rush, we often forget to connect with each other and nourish our inner selves. Our dream is to reach that destination, one step closer every day. We love to travel and believe that sharing the journey with others makes it more meaningful. So, here we are, eager to share our knowledge and curious to learn about your journey.

Who Are We and What Do We Do at Buurtcafe LOFT?

We are Erik and Defne, and Buurtcafe LOFT is our home! Erik Peters, a tropical forestry graduate from Wageningen University, is an autodidact architect/carpenter, passionate kitesurfer, and traveler. Defne Gunhan-Peters, born in Istanbul and raised in the UK, graduated from the Oxford School of Hospitality Management. In 2006, she embarked on an adventure in the Netherlands and was the proud owner of [another establishment] in Rotterdam until December 2022. We also reside in one-third of the building, renovated to our ideal home, enhancing our experience at Buurtcafe LOFT. We rent out a variety of spaces to creative initiatives and have partnered with Beans & Dreams, Café LOFT, and M.Y. Journey to create a vibrant community hub. Whether you live in The Hague or are traveling from afar, you can spend a whole day at Buurtcafe LOFT without getting bored. For those traveling from afar, we also offer overnight accommodations.
