Orlinye Skaly
Orlinye Skaly – a unique excursion destination in the city of Sochi. As a natural, historical, and geographical landmark, the cliffs are located in the Hostinsky district, within the Matsesta forestry of the Sochi National Park.
In close proximity to the Agura River estuary, near the Agur Waterfalls, and facing Mount Akhun, the magnificent cliffs rise nearly 400 meters above sea level. Known for their vertical 'White' cliffs covered in light limestone and yellow sandstone, the cliffs are a favorite spot for climbers. The area also features several karst caves, with the largest one at a depth of 15 meters.
The peaks and gentler slopes of the cliffs are adorned with the famous Pitsunda pine, listed in the Red Book, as well as oaks and hornbeams. The rich nature surrounding the cliffs impresses with its green beauty, exceptionally fresh air, and crystal-clear rivers and waterfalls nearby. The view from the cliff tops is stunning, offering sights of the Chugush (3238 m), Achishkho (2391 m), Pseashkho (3257 m), Sugar Head (1550 m), and Aibga Range (highest point – 2462 m) mountains, some of which remain snow-capped even in summer. On the other side, the panorama reveals Sochi and, of course, the Black Sea!
The cliffs' significance is further enhanced by the famous ancient legend of the indigenous peoples living along the Black Sea coast, intriguingly echoing the ancient Greek myth of Prometheus.
